The Heart Behind the Health (Narrative Medicine)

Stories centered on care, healing, illness, identity, and the human side of health.
Open to: Students (Undergraduate, Medical Students), Physicians, Counselors, Caregivers, and anyone with a meaningful experience connected to health.
We are seeking original, heartfelt, and thought-provoking Narrative Medicine pieces that illuminate the human experience of illness, healing, caregiving, identity, and resilience. Whether you are a patient, caregiver, student, advocate, or simply someone moved by the intersections of medicine and story, we invite you to share your voice.

What We’re Looking For

Pieces that highlight the humanity behind clinical spaces

Personal narratives grounded in lived experience

Stories that explore vulnerability, empathy, and the complexities of healthcare

Reflections on encounters that changed you, emotionally, intellectually, or ethically

Submission Guidelines

  • Length: 500–1,200 words
  • Format: Narrative nonfiction (first-person encouraged)
  • Art: High-resolution images in JPEG or PNG format.
  • Originality: Work must be previously unpublished
  • Tone: Honest, reflective, and rooted in authentic experience
  • Audience: General readers with an interest in medicine, wellness, and human stories

Open Perspectives (General Category)

Teen Writers & Artists

For students ages 14–18

Creative nonfiction, personal essays, reflections, poetry, or lived-experience pieces on any topic : identity, community, growth, belonging, challenge, creativity, mental health or moments that shaped you.

We invite teen creators to contribute work that reflects your voice, culture, and imagination. Accepted submission types include:
  • Personal essays or reflections
  • Short fiction or flash fiction
  • Poetry (any style)
  • Visual art (paintings, illustrations, photography)
  • Comics or graphic narratives
  • Cultural writing or interviews
🔵 Word Count: Up to 1,000 words for prose. Up to 3 poems per submission.
🔵 Art: High-resolution images in JPEG or PNG format.
🔵 Language: English is preferred, but multilingual submissions with English translation are welcome.
🔵 Themes: We love pieces about identity, creativity, culture, STEM, emotions, activism, dreams, and everyday life.

Calling all teen STEM writers (ages 13–18)
We’re looking for curious minds and passionate voices to contribute articles, explainers, think pieces, and personal takes on topics like:
